BIOCHAR DE NOGAL SA DE CV

Tierra Prieta is the trade name of Biochar de Nogal SA de CV, or "el biochar", as many of you know us.

"Tierra Prieta" is a translation of "terra preta," the term the Portuguese used to describe the unusually fertile black soil they found in some areas of the Amazon. Centuries later, with the soil still more fertile than the surrounding area, they discovered that its peculiar color was due to biochar added by the indigenous people, centuries before the Portuguese conquistadors arrived.

"Biochar de Nogal", our company name, has a simpler history, since our biochar is produced with waste from the pecan tree, or "Nogal" in Spanish.
